feature story

feature story

the project process

When we were assigned this project we were asked to do a feature story on someone in our class. First we sat down and asked our partner a bunch of general questions such as hobbies, favorite food, and favorite color. After taking notes on basic questions we had to find one topic to focus on. While finding a topic we had to keep in mind that we would be needing lots of b roll and natural sound for the interview. I ending up choosing band as my partners topic. I thought it would be great since dance team performs with the band so I was familiar with the topic. Another advantage I had was that I already had lots of footage from the competitions to use in my video. I knew that I could get great natural sound of her playing her base drum. After I settled on that topic I started to story board. It ending up taking me longer to story board than it did to edit the video. Having a storyboard makes editing the video a lot easier because you have all of the clips in the order that you want.

what I learned

I learned a lot about video production by doing this project. I learned what goes into an interview such as b roll, natural sound, voice overs, a lower third, and the actual interview. I also learned when and how to use all of these things in adobe premiere, like when you want to add b roll you have to put the clip over the interview clip to see the b roll but still hear the interview. Before this project I thought that an interview was just a video of an interviewer asking someone questions. Now I know that there is a lot more that goes into an interview. I also learned a lot of professional things while working on this project. Having a partner comes with using collaboration and team work. I like doing projects like these because you get to learn how to work with different kinds of people. Obviously we made different videos for this project but we still had to use collaboration. We had to ask each other questions and make sure that the answers answered the question well so that the other persons video would flow nice and really tell a story. We also used teamwork by helping each other set up the camera, tripod, and whenever something acted up we tried to fix it.

what I liked and disliked

There are lots of things I liked about my project but there are also a few things I didn't like. I really liked all of the b roll I had, I had some from football game performances, competitions, and videos of us celebrating a win at our final competition. I also liked that I had a lot of natural sound clips of her playing her drum. I had a nice variety or angles and different songs that she played. I also thought that the interview was set up nice with nice lighting and my partner answered my questions very well. The things I disliked about my video were the voice overs I had. My first and last voice overs were nice because I had an easy time introducing and closing the interview. But I had a hard time thinking of things to say to put the middle clips together without saying what was happening in the next clip. I ended up starting my video over because the day before it was due it deleted off of the computer. But I ended up having more time to produce my video. I also kept a part in that was a little repetitive but I didn't notice until I presented my video. For the next project I am going to take more time recording my voiceovers and watch my video multiple times to look for repetitive parts or errors so I can take them out.

overview

Overall this project was really fun to make. I had a great time learning more about band and what its like to be on drum line. I didn't realize how much went into an interview. The project was a lot of work but I really liked doing it. I'm looking forward to doing more projects like this in the future.

Maddy Samuelson Sidewalk chalk

On the first day we got our teams and started thinking of ideas that we could draw that would symbolize each one of us. But the symbols had to sort of have the same theme throughout the drawing. So we each came up with four ideas that we could use. Some were similar and some not at all. For my symbols I chose a red rose which means promise, a sun which I think means happy, a tree for nature, hearts for love, and an American flag for USA. To be similar we all tried to do nature related things but like I said before some were a little off topic. On day two our groups started sketching the things we wanted to draw on paper. Some things that people chose they didn't like anymore so they changes some symbols. What I did is I had a few symbols from the day before and I added some so that I could fill all of my space up. I We also had to decide how we were going to draw all of our symbols on the ground. We wanted to be able to tell that we all had different ideas so we divided our sq...

ab sequence

In this project we learned even more about using the six shots while filming. This video could be longer than the video we filmed for the creating a document, so we had a lot more time. Since we had more time we had to switch our angle of the shot more often. Because if you watched a video and all the shots were taken at the same angle it would be boring. In this project we had our character going all over the place where in the other one our character was only in the library. So we had more action in this video which was much more fun to film! When me and my other three partners were brainstorming and sketching for this project we had so many ideas that it was hard to narrow it down to one big idea! The first and biggest thing we had to figure out was where our characters would end up. Because we didn't want to be on one side of the school then have to find enough stopping points to get to the other side of the school and still have the viewer know where we were going.  We edi...

typography anatomy

Typography project   The project We did this project so we could learn about different fonts and how there are heights for certain parts of the letters. Also that parts of the letters are called something specific, they don't just have the basic shape that you think they would have. We also learned how to make dashed lines and arrows on illustrator so that you could really see what part was where. What we learned We learned a lot during this project, most of it I stated in the paragraph above. But these specific things I really had to focus on because they were things that were apart of my name. These things are a bowl, crossbar, aperture, descender, shoulder, diagonal stroke, counter, finial, stem, and a serif. These were all things used to identify parts of my letters when using this font. We also learned about  the sizing of letters like uppercase, x height, and the base line. Those are three heights that my letters hit. How was the project  The project ove...
