Quarter 4 project

Group project

For this project the teachers assigned us in small groups, in those groups we were to create a product that doesn't exist or improve a product that does exist. The teachers also told us that after we create everything for our project we were going to present our product like people do on the show shark tank. Going into this project me and my group knew that we were going to have to make this product and everything that came along with it very professional and something that everyone could use. Me and my group finally decide that we were going to create the flare coffee cup. Flare is a heated coffee cup with adjustable temperature that will keep your drink warm all day long. This whole project took the whole fourth quarter. We spent two days brainstorming ideas, two weeks in animation, two weeks in video, and finally two weeks in graphic design. The biggest challenge in this project for me and my group was the first couple of days. We had a really hard time coming up with an idea for our product, most things that we thought of already exists or would be really hard to show in a commercial. There were no other problems with the product other than that, my group worked well together and had lots of ideas for animations and designs once we decided on a product. Throughout this product I learned that you can do so much when you work with other people. In previous projects I've had groups that don't cooperate, but this time I had a great group and since we worked so well together we accomplished so many things. Before we did the actual shark tank presentation we did a practice infant of the class, after that our classmates gave us feedback on how we presented and changes we could make on our website. After we were given the feedback we made little adjustment to our website and made our script a little longer for our presentation. My thoughts over this quarter and the project are great! It was really fun being able to create your own product but being able to work on it with others. I also learned so much about every branch of e-comm just from this project.

Time in class

During class time me and my group went to three rotations. First we went to animation where we made two 2d animations on photoshop and a 3d animation on sketchup. next we went to video where we made a commercial showing our product and sharing information about our product. Finally we went to graphic design where we made a logo for our product and company, after that we ,Ade a website where we put everything that we did from each rotation in plus a little bit more information about our product. My group never had time when we weren't doing anything. After we finished a project we would keep improving it until our time in the rotation was over and we moved on to the next. Sometimes we wouldn't  completely finish something in a rotation so later we would go back into the server and finish it. A couple times my group or some of the members would come in during power 50 and work on the things we did in class.

My strengths

During this year of e-comm I learned that I had strengths I never thought I would have. Before e-comm I didn't think I was very creative but through graphic design I learned I had lots of ideas for logos and color schemes for my projects. I also never thought I would be able to make an animation and work well with the computer (most of the time) but through animation I had that opportunity. As a shy person I never thought I would be in a commercial (even though it wasn't a real one on tv...) but through video I got to be in videos but also film and edit them. I definitely think my strength is either video or graphic design, I feel like both of those strands come easier to me. I'm very glad that next year I will continue to work on both of those areas and improve my skills even more!

Improvement

The area I need more improvement is in animation. I'm not the best with the programs we use in animation. I could never get my project to look smooth it was always choppy and hard to follow. I also think I could improve my skills in editing videos. Like I said before next year I'm continuing with video so I will get to work with that a little more. Next year will be a lot better for me because I will be a lot better with working all of the program and if we get to use new programs I will understand those a little better also because now I'm comfortable with using this computer.

Summary

The part I loved most about this quarter was the final project. I liked that we got to go to every rotation again but throughout all of the rotations we were working on one final product instead of many different little projects. Something I would change or do differently is had people pick their groups for the final project instead of assigning them because then people would feel more comfortable sharing ideas and woking with their group. As a freshmen I learned so much this quarter, I learned a little bit about everything which was great and I'm glad we get to do everything then the next year narrow down to our two favorites.  I would say I learned the most in graphic design because we learned about all of the symbols and colors with their meanings and now I don't look at logos the same way I did before the class. One goal I would like to set for next year is to be more independent with my projects, I feel like a lot of this year we had teachers hep us a lot and kind of carry the whole class. Like I said before next year I will be more comfortable with the programs so I fee like I will be able to achieve tis goal. My final thoughts on this hole year are great. The teachers are great at teaching each class and are really helpful because they understand we need help because we haven't done anything like this before. Im very glad I joined the e-comm program.

Maddy Samuelson Sidewalk chalk

On the first day we got our teams and started thinking of ideas that we could draw that would symbolize each one of us. But the symbols had to sort of have the same theme throughout the drawing. So we each came up with four ideas that we could use. Some were similar and some not at all. For my symbols I chose a red rose which means promise, a sun which I think means happy, a tree for nature, hearts for love, and an American flag for USA. To be similar we all tried to do nature related things but like I said before some were a little off topic. On day two our groups started sketching the things we wanted to draw on paper. Some things that people chose they didn't like anymore so they changes some symbols. What I did is I had a few symbols from the day before and I added some so that I could fill all of my space up. I We also had to decide how we were going to draw all of our symbols on the ground. We wanted to be able to tell that we all had different ideas so we divided our sq...

ab sequence

In this project we learned even more about using the six shots while filming. This video could be longer than the video we filmed for the creating a document, so we had a lot more time. Since we had more time we had to switch our angle of the shot more often. Because if you watched a video and all the shots were taken at the same angle it would be boring. In this project we had our character going all over the place where in the other one our character was only in the library. So we had more action in this video which was much more fun to film! When me and my other three partners were brainstorming and sketching for this project we had so many ideas that it was hard to narrow it down to one big idea! The first and biggest thing we had to figure out was where our characters would end up. Because we didn't want to be on one side of the school then have to find enough stopping points to get to the other side of the school and still have the viewer know where we were going.  We edi...

typography anatomy

Typography project   The project We did this project so we could learn about different fonts and how there are heights for certain parts of the letters. Also that parts of the letters are called something specific, they don't just have the basic shape that you think they would have. We also learned how to make dashed lines and arrows on illustrator so that you could really see what part was where. What we learned We learned a lot during this project, most of it I stated in the paragraph above. But these specific things I really had to focus on because they were things that were apart of my name. These things are a bowl, crossbar, aperture, descender, shoulder, diagonal stroke, counter, finial, stem, and a serif. These were all things used to identify parts of my letters when using this font. We also learned about  the sizing of letters like uppercase, x height, and the base line. Those are three heights that my letters hit. How was the project  The project ove...
